The most beautiful, wide and sandy beaches can be found in Bentota (South West) a thriving tourist resort with many hotels. Tourist wise there is a strong German influence but they prefer to enjoy the hotel grounds. With the lively fish markets, the towns are divided by the Bentota Ganga. The broad, sandy, gently shelving beach has calm, warm waters on two fronts- the sea where the swimming is generally safe and deep sea fishing and diving can be arranged and the River where you may try water skiing, wind surfing or take a cooling, lazy boat ride up stream and through the mangroves. Not quite “Bateau Mouche” but when did you last see a water monitor, crocodile or Kingfisher in Paris? Don't worry, water sports operate at the salt water mouth of the river and the crocs reside upstream in the fresh water!

is a small fishing village located on the West Coast of Sri Lanka at a distance of 75 km from the international airport at Sri Lanka and 45 km from Colombo. This beautiful place has maintained its charm despite being a hotspot location and a major tourist attraction. The major occupation of the villagers here still remains as catching fish. Tourists can enjoy watching colorful boats coming with fresh catches early in the morning besides strolling in the markets and walking or lazing on the beach. The heart of the Beruwela city is a busy commercial area while the surrounding areas on the beach mostly hold residences. This is the peaceful part of the city most suitable for relaxing and having a great time. The beaches in Beruwela are ideal for swimming because of the constant breeze blowing here. Another interesting thing to look for is the turtle hatchery located close to the beach where you can spot turtles.

The capital of the southern province is a city with a colourful history. UNESCO declared World Heritage Site the magnificent Dutch fort is the most popular attraction of the town. 300 year old Dutch atmosphere is still very much alive around the fort and amidst its many historical buildings not invaded by the skyscrapers. The beautiful beach of Unawatuna is just 6km south east of the city centre. The southern coastal belt is the most popular among the tourists and comes to life mainly from October through April when the monsoon moves northeast and the sea becomes calm with blue skies. The earliest European administrative centre of Sri Lanka was the major port and the largest city until the British shifted the port to Colombo. The City of Galle had been the European administrative centre over 4 centuries.

Whale and dolphin watching in Mirissa is one of the most exciting water activities . you can do in Sri Lanka during your holiday.
Mirissa is the best place to start your whale and dolphin watching tour in Sri Lanka.
In warm Indian ocean you can see Blue whales, Bryde´s whales, Sperm whales, Fin whales, sometimes Killer whales, and Common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso's dolphins and Striped dolphins. Sometimes you can see turtles and various fish species, for example Bluefin tuna and flying fish.
we don´t go too close to the whales (good distance for taking pictures, safe distance for whales)
we don´t cross whale´s course
we reduce the boat speed to minimize the noise when we approach the whales
we stop the engines if whales and dolphins come close to our boat
our passengers are not allowed to go under the water to take picture of whales, swim with them and touch them
we don´t throw out any garbage into the ocean
Mirissa and its breathtaking sandy beach pretty much transforms your dreams and visions of a tropical paradise into an everyday reality. Located close to the Southern tip of the Island of Sri Lanka and only about 200 km from the Equator, this secluded crescent shaped beach is the perfect place to sit back, relax and forget about all the hustle and bustle of your other life that’s a million miles away. This small sandy tropical beach boasts some of Sri Lanka’s best and most stunning sunsets and sunrises.
All the Guest Houses in Mirissa are set back from the actual beach giving you the impression that you are on a deserted palm fringed island. Every now and again the silence is broken by the sound of a coconut falling on the sand or a chilled beer being opened by someone further up the beach
